Package: libqt5printsupport5 Version: 5.12.5+dfsg-8 Severity: important
I have an up-to-date unstable system with CUPS and cups-filters installed. cups-browsed is not installed. The Qt print dialog has two entries: ENVY4500 and LaserJet_300_desktop. The ENVY is an IPP printer on the network and the LaserJet is an advertised queue on a remote CUPS server. The enumeration is done via DNS-SD from the printer and the server and both devices are capable of two-sided printing. All ok up to there. Looking under Options, the duplex options are greyed out. Furthermore, "Advanced" under "Properties" is also greyed out. The latter means that a user cannot set values for Media Type, Color Model and Print Quality. Rather a disadvantage, I would have thought. Here is an output from querying the printer: brian@cupstest:~$ lpoptions -p envy4500 -l PageSize/Media Size: 100x150mm 111.76x152.4mm 3.5x5 3.5x5.Borderless 3x5 4x6 4x6.Borderless 5x7 5x7.Borderless 5x8 8x10 8x10.Borderless *A4 A4.Borderless A5 A6 A6.Borderless B5 Env10 EnvA2 EnvC5 EnvC6 EnvChou3 EnvChou4 EnvDL EnvMonarch EnvPersonal Executive ISOB5 Legal Letter Letter.Borderless Postcard Postcard.Borderless Statement Custom.WIDTHxHEIGHT MediaType/Media Type: *Stationery PhotographicGlossy ColorModel/Output Mode: *RGB Gray Gray16 DeviceGray DeviceRGB AdobeRGB Duplex/Duplex: *None DuplexNoTumble DuplexTumble cupsPrintQuality/cupsPrintQuality: Draft *Normal High brian@cupstest:~$ If the printer or print queue is printed to, CUPS forms a temporary, local queue and a PPD is generated in /etc/cups/ppd from the queries made. This queue exists for a minute and during that time the duplex and Advanced options are available in the Qt dialog. It seems to me that the dialog is not querying either printer or queue to get their attributes to display but, OTOH, is happy to deal with local queues, which is what cups-browsed supplies. It would be good to take full advantage of what CUPS offers and fix this unsatisfactory behaviour. Regards, Brian.
