This bug is due to cftime 1.0.2, which now causes :

TypeError: Cannot cast datetime.timedelta object from metadata [Y] to [us] according to the rule 'same_kind'

in one of the test cases when python3 is used (not python2).

AFAICT, this does not affect the code, just the test, so for the moment I am marking the test XFAIL to allow the package to build while the code is fixed in cftime.

Thanks

python-xarray began failing its autopkgtests on October 27. On that
date, cftime 1.0.2 was uploaded and appears to be the likely trigger
for these failures.

I am filing this bug against python-xarray although it's possible the
bug is in cftime instead. I am filing as serious. In Ubuntu,
autopkgtest failures prevent packages from migrating out of their
-proposed repository unless explicitly ignored. In Debian, autopkgtest
failures can delay package migration to testing by about a month
currently.

The autopkgtest failure might indicate a major problem in your package
but I don't know enough about the package to know that for sure.
Please investigate. You can set the severity level that you feel is
appropriate.
