It's not always as easy as that...

If installation fails with the message
"Package ngspice is not available, but is referred to by another
package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted,
or is only available from another source"

in my case, it's as easy as adding non-free to /etc/apt/sources.list and
re-running the listed commands...

perhaps the instructions need some improvement? After all, you're only
likely to look for them if the obvious doesn't work...
