Agreed, of course, and I already tried. But when I (as owner of project 'rpy2') try this I only have options debian-perl and debian-r which appear to be the only other (large) maintainer groups I joined. So someone needs to put me into debian-science, or tell me which button to click to request to join. I did not find one when I tried. Which is why I asked in my preceding message.
