You could also do something like this to generate md5sums for packages
that don't have them yet:
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
apt-get --download-only --reinstall install `debsums -l`
debsums --generate=keep,nocheck *.deb
(redownload all deb packages that do not have md5sums and generate them)
