This machine, I should state at the outset, is happily running sarge and
has been for almost a year. I don't remember how I installed it;
probably booted from a woody floppy and upgraded.

Since I'll soon have a couple more E250s available, I thought I'd try
the new sarge netboot CD and see how it worked. Sadly, I can't get it to
boot.

If I boot from the CD and type 'linux' at the SILO prompt, I get:

> ...
>
> RAMDISK: compressed image found at block 0
> Freeing initrd memory: 2970k freed
> VFS: mount root (ext2 filesystem)
> Mounted devfs on /dev
> VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) <----- Second time?????

> Bus error (continues till we quit)

The machine gives a 'bus error' message about every second or so. Stop-A
is the only solution here (apart from the power switch, that is). I've
let it run for several minutes in the hope that it might actually be
doing something, but it isn't.

Even stranger, if I type 'rescue' at the SILO prompt, I get:

> ...
>
> RAMDISK: compressed image found at block 0
> Freeing initrd memory: 2970k freed
> VFS: mount root (ext2 filesystem)
> Mounted devfs on /dev
> Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00

followed by a message to hit Stop-A to recover.

I've experimented with command-line parameters, but nothing seems to
help. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

  .....Ron
