I've got a sun e250 that installs fine and correctly using tftp/ftp and the debian beta 4 installer. I have installed debian testing (sarge) and tried both the smp and the uniprocessor 2.4.26 kernels. The problem is that it won't boot correctly off of SILO, whether that's from the hard disk or from the cdrom. It works fine off of a boot net into the tftp installer.
I get: SILO version 1.4.4 boot: Allocated 8 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel Uncompressing image... Loaded kernel version 2.4.26 Illegal Instruction {0} ok With boot CD ("minimal" CD http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/sarge_d-i/sparc/beta4/sarge-sparc-netinst.iso) [ ENTER - boot install] [ Type 'Rescue' boot into rescue mode] boot: rescue Allocated 8 megs of memory.... Loaded kernel version 2.4.24 Loading initial ramdisk (blah blah bytes at blah) Illegal Instruction {0} ok boot cdrom [ ENTER - boot install] [ Type 'Rescue' boot into rescue mode] boot: linux root=/dev/rd/0 rw Allocated 8 megs of memory.... Loaded kernel version 2.4.24 Loading initial ramdisk (blah blah bytes at blah) Illegal Instruction {0} ok Anyone have any hints for me or any other testing things I can try? My friend and I have looked into it and we have a suspicion that it's SILO because the netboot works fine with 2.4.24. I'm also not on the list so please cc me with any responses to the list.
