I don't know about debian's kernels, but a well patched 2.6.8 (gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r12) does the job great on my ultra10 because all the remaining issues (that I know of) are SCSI and SMP related... I seem to recall the reason I started using 2.6 was keyboard related (and I use a USB keyboard)...
