Hey Joy I have tried the ,9600 add-on on Lenny, no change noted, but I can try it on Etch. I'll have to do that tomorrow morning, going to bed now.
The machine does have a card installed at the bottom of the rack. The card has two RJ-45 ports, "Serial MGMT" and "NET MGMT". I have a Cisco RJ-45 to RS232/DB9 cable, I connected it to the Serial mgmt port... I got a prompt asking for a username and password. I have no idea what this username and password is... is there some means of resetting this card ? I assume this card is the ALOM card. When I got the machine the openbootPROM input-device and output-device settings were set to rsc, I changed them to ttya. I see there are jumpers on the Serial/net mgmt card, I just need to find out what they do. I haven't placed much priority on it until now; didn't realise it was that useful. I'm thinking you should be using something like "console=ttyS0,9600n1", that's what I last used on one of mine (though not on the exact same type). Do you have RSC/ALOM on this machine? Using its console redirection would greatly simplify the console issues, you wouldn't have to do anything in the software. -- 2. That which causes joy or happiness.
