I had an Iwill motherboord with Adaptec Aic-7880 Ultra-wide
SCSI-Controller on board. The one, thats also on some Adaptec
29xx-UW-Cards.
It did not run with precompiled debian-kernels ether.
I think, all I had to do to get it to work was to compile
the kernel with a 'DELAY IN SECONDS AFTER SCSI RESET' = 15.
I think, the standard value was 5 and did not work with my
controller.
Perhaps, this solves your problem.
