Does this happen before it even downloads the Package files from the sources during apt-get update? (You might notice I don't really know much of the technical stuff of apt-get. But here is an uninformed idea anyway: what happens if you delete /var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_testing_main_binary-i386_Packages before running apt-get update again?)
