I am using an ISDN connection to the internet. My setup is such that whenever a connection to some internet ip is demanded, the ipppd will automatically dial in. I also run a caching name server. My debian is a woody from about beginning of mai.
When using konqueror the following problem occurs: Trying to read an internet page offline I plainly take the isdn line down, which works well. netstate reports the tcp connctions to the html server still to be established. After a while ipppd dials in again even though I have not demanded a new html page not even rereading the existing on. Even after closing konqueror it happens, that ipppd dials itself in again. netstat only reports internet connections formerly owned by konqueror. Here the netstate report after the connection to some webpage has been made: # netstat -n --inet Active Internet connections (w/o servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32783 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32782 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32781 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32780 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32779 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED After closing konqueror: # netstat -n --tcp Active Internet connections (w/o servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32783 134.102.20.223:80 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32782 134.102.20.223:80 TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32781 134.102.20.223:80 TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32780 134.102.20.223:80 TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 149.225.17.57:32779 134.102.20.223:80 TIME_WAIT Also there seem to be kde related processes running (klauncher and dcopserver). The redialing is quite annoying because I pay the internet bill by time and have to keep taking down the internet connection. To switch off the autodial facility I would like to avoid. Although I searched mailing lists quite extensively I didn't find this problem mentioned. So here my questions: - Did I made some configuation error in the debian setup? - Can I force down open tcp connections? - Does anybody know about a similiar problem? - Can anybody put me on the right track?
