One question though - why would eepro100.o be around if it was compiled into the kernel? Also, the network configuration step of the install was passed over. When I explicitly chose it (from the "big list" at the bottom), it failed because it couldn't find any devices to configure. And a quick "cat /proc/pci" on the emergency shell shows that it indeed is there :)
