Nicholas Weininger's workaround did not work for me, but something similar did.
I was using the official 3.0 cd set, upgrading from 2.2r7. When I followed the release notes, using apt from dselect, I got: E: Internal error, could not perform immediate configuration I didn't record everything I did to work round this, but the steps which seemed to make progress were: apt-get install apt apt-get install dpkg apt-get install perl apt-get install debconf Between the above commands, successively, I tried to use dselect again, but until the last I got either the error above or E: Internal Error, couldn't configure a pre-depend After the four commands I could use dselect, though I think it took two attempts before everything was installed. It would be helpful if the release notes on the web http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html (and parallels) could be updated with a good workaround. -- David Stone <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
