Did you get a question about updating the configuration file /etc/pam.d/other ? I got that question because some comments have been added, but accepting the update would have changed the important line: password required pam_unix.so md5 into password required pam_unix.so
I suspect doing so might lead to authorization failures like you get. Then you might want to revert to the first version (but beware, I have no deep knowledge of pam). Hope this helps. Daniel
