I know about using dpkg for installing stray packages - ones that are not
part of any distribution, not even sid. But is there a standard place
within the debian file system where such are to be stored? I could just
create a directory somewhere, but I suspect someone will have allocated
one just for the them, and I'd like to use a standard location.

And is there any particular way to organize said directory to make it
usable as a source for dselect?
