und hier meine Problemlösung: ich hatte in der smartd.conf folgenden Standart-Eintrag stehen:
DEVICESCAN -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner diese Zeile führt zumindest jetzt auch zu einer Fehlermeldung die mir vorher gar nicht aufgefallen war!? smartd[9006]: Drive: DEVICESCAN, implied '-a' Directive on line 22 of file /etc/smartd.conf Habe den Eintrag auskommetiert, meine Platten sind manuell eingetragen (/dev/sda -a -d ata und /dev/sdb -a -d ata) und siehe da: smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/hda, enabled SMART Automatic Offline Testing. smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/hda, is SMART capable. Adding to "monitor" list. smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sda, opened smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sda, found in smartd database. smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sda, is SMART capable. Adding to "monitor" list. smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sdb, opened smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sdb, found in smartd database. smartd[9303]: Device: /dev/sdb, is SMART capable. Adding to "monitor" list. smartd[9303]: Monitoring 3 ATA and 0 SCSI devices smartd[9327]: smartd has fork()ed into background mode.
