Seems to have worked, but I don't have KDE installed, so I'm not sure if its system-wide. 2) KDE and Gnome use Xft(2)/fontconfig to get their fonts, not the traditional fontserver provided by X or xfs. So you have to edit /etc/fonts/fonts.conf or /etc/fonts/local.conf and include the path to this fonts there too.
