Olá. Eu tb uso cable modem e não tive NENHUMA dificuldade. Coloquei no /etc/network/interfaces a mesma coisa q vc colocou e reiniciei o serviço de rede( /etc/init.d/network restart). Pronto. Funcionou legal. Uma coisa que tive de fazer a mais foi instalar o dhcp-client e configurar algumas coisinhas nele. Por exemplo: o dhcp sobreescrevia o /etc/resolv.conf com os servidores DNS dele e este computador era um DNS da rede local.
