Yo tuve el mismo problema. Me funcionaba bien con el kernel 2.0.34, y eso me sucedio luego de cambiarme al kernel 2.1.126.
Yo cambie el /etc/printcap: Antes tenia /dev/lp1 y puse /dev/lp0. Tal vez te ayude en algo, Saludos, Alexis.
