Ok,
cuando tengas identificado el hardware comprobar que tu kernel lo soporta, si
no es así buscas el modulo (que tendrás que compilar e instalar)
Te cuento que lo primero que tuve que hacer fue recompilar el kernel porque
inicialmente no me detectaba la tarjeta de red,
y aproveche para customizar un poco el kernel y le intregre directo al kernel
algunas configuraciones
del mouse (por ejemplo CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSE, el de PS2, etc)

resulta que descargue ubuntu hardy live el cual si me detectó y funcionó el
mouse y algunas cosas más..
