1) desconectá el adaptador (si es que está conectado...)
2) en una terminal:
#tail -f /var/log/kern.log
En mi caso, al conectar un adaptardor rs232-usb sale esto:

Entonces, en mi caso, una impresora matricial via puerto serie el
dispositivo es "/dev/ttyUSB0"
