Thank you :) !!!!! That file is awesome!!!! I've already been taking notes on various things for the past week and a half (I have a very bad memory and that makes it very hard for me to remember things, so I need to take notes).
I have been a good boy and made rescue disks - but I didn't need them. I booted into my original kernel, ran lilo, rebooted system and my new kernel would boot! Thank you Jerry. I didn't think it'd be necessary cos I didn't change any file names in /boot, but I was wrong. Only thing that didn't work on reboot was X, but a quick logon as root, ran the Nvidia stuff again, rebooted and all is back to normal. My kernel is safe and sound again - thanks to you guys. :-) I have an issue with getting sound to work, but it's a different issue, so i'll post a new topic on that. W00t! If you didn't make a rescue disk, use any of the debian install CD's .. Doesn't matter if it is Woody or Potato. At the prompt type: rescue root=/dev/hda2 where hda2 is the ROOT of the file system. Also, here is a quick link to making kernels step by step that I use every time I build a kernel: http://outcast-consultants.redmond.or.us/files/linux.doc gl tatah - -- Jaye Inabnit\ARS ke6sls\/A GNU-Debian linux user\/ http://www.qsl.net/ke6sls If it's stupid, but works, it ain't stupid.
