Believe it or not, I use Samba. It's easy to export the home directories
(this is usually in the default configuration), and you can set up fstab
easily to mount them as well. I have set up my firewall so that the SMB
and NMB ports aren't accesible to the outside world, and also use
encrypted passwords. (I also have Samba sharing out a printer, which has
made printing on a mixed-client network MUCH easier, but that's another
story.) It's been much less hassle and much easier to maintain than NFS
for me.
