There are no offiicial debian packages for sun's java plugin, as sun's
license is too restrictive. Unfortunately the is no free replacements
for this yet. There are some unofficial debian packages you might want
to search for those on google.com.

On the other hand there are free replacements for yahoo messenger, that
are even compatible with it. You can use the jabber protocol to connect
to the yahoo network. You can get more information about jabber at
www.jabber.org, you can also get a list of jabber servers and the
transports they support (msn, yahoo, icq, aim, etc...) at
http://www.jabber.org/user/publicservers.php .

I really like the psi jabber client for X windows, and imcom for the
console, but there are lots of others.

If you would just like to a yahoo messenger clone without the added
functionality of jabber there are packages that do just that. ari-yahoo
and gnuyahoo for console, gaim and everybuddy for X.

The advantage with jabber is that there are freely available
implimentations of the server. You can use any number of servers and you
can even run your own. I'm running my own server right now (with msn and
icq transports, but no yahoo...).

If none of this interests you there is a version of yahoo messenger that
is available for linux. You can download that from yahoo. Again there is
no official Debian package because it is not free software.
