Not sure I understand completely what you want to do. Normally the X login screen is provided by one of the following programs: xdm, kdm, or gdm -- depending upon what you have installed. It is supposed to go back to the login screen after the user logs out. I know of no why to make it kill itself after the user logs out. But this isn't really a problem I don't think, as you can get access to a console screen when you are in X. You press "cntl - alt - F1" (or F2 or F3) to get a console screen.
