I think KDE apps only look at /etc/printcap, which is not written to by
CUPS by default.  There is a way to tell KDE apps (from the control
center?  I don't know, as I'm not near a box with KDE on it) to use
/etc/printcap.cups, or you can 
rm /etc/printcap 
ln -s /etc/printcap.cups /etc/printcap
