This is the problem I think:
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory
    grep: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build/Makefile: No such file or directory

your modules aren't correctly installed. Did you do a 'make
modules_install' after you compiled your kernel?
