I think I've seen this question here lately but haven't been able to locate it. Sorry.
I just upgraded to testing to get X 4.2 because it supports my card. Now X starts fine but (1) I can't cltrl-alt Fx to a virtual terminal, (2) /etc/init.d/xdm stop not only kills X but it also kills any further output to the monitor, (3) nothing is printed to the screen after X has been killed during shutdown.
