Have you tried using gphoto2, the CLI utility?

For example:
$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model                          Port

Kodak DX4530                   usb:

Then, you can do things like:
$  gphoto2 --list-files
$  gphoto2 --get-all-files
$  gphoto2 --delete-all-files
