You have only got cdrom sources in there, you need to get packages from the internet to upgrade to sarge. Be warned, upgrading to sarge will involve a lot of downloading, I hope you have a fast internet connection. Comment out everything in your /etc/apt/sources.list file, with a # at the start of each line, then add: deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sarge main contrib non-free deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main #deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sarge main contrib non-free #deb-src http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free I've done this for you in the attached file, you can just save the attachment as /etc/apt/sources.list then type: apt-get update this will download the lists of packages for sarge. after that's finished, type: apt-get dist-upgrade this will tell you what it's going to do to upgrade, and how much it will download, and ask permission, if you say yes, it will upgrade your system. One day, debian will be user-friendly, but think of all the fun we'll miss out on :/ Sam
