If you use 2.6, you need to change /etc/modprobe.d/sound. If you do use 2.4, make sure that there is no /etc/modutils/sound with settings that conflict with your alsa file. Also make sure that discover1 and hotplug, if installed, are present in the latest versions so the OSS drivers won't be loaded. > How do I get ALSA to run alsactl correctly on bootup? Also, if you ran alsaconf, it is possible that you now have a file /etc/modprobe.conf, which is empty.
