postfix postmap problem

I'm trying to add some entries to a helo_access lookup table and testing 
them with postmap.

But when I try to test with 'postmap -q subdomain.domain.tld 
helo_access' it will not find the subdomain match even though postconf 
shows the match on subdomains as being enabled:
parent_domain_matches_subdomains = 
debug_peer_list,fast_flush_domains,mynetworks,permit_mx_backup_networks,qmqpd_authorized_clients,relay_domains,smtpd_access_maps

Any ideas?
