Hi. I am a debian newbie. I did an install of debian sarge and I am getting
kernel errors. They say:

apm: BIOS not found
APIC: error on CPU0: 60(60)

There are many of the first error and an occasional second one.

I was not exactly clear about what apm and acpi are. I am not even sure that I
need either one. I sat down and read about them. It seems that I don't need
them both, because if there is acpi support on my machine (the newer power
mangement thing) then I dont need apm. So I went through dmesg and there are
tons of APIC: lines (APIC this and APIC that with IRQ's etc). So acpi it
seems to be! and so I guess I should nuke apm.
Question 1: I did dpkg -l|grep apm and see apmd and libapml. So do I nuke em
both?

Question 2: Why do I get
APIC: error on CPU0: 60(60)? I also see in dmesg the following line:
ACPI Processor[CPU1](support C1).
So what is this? The system is a single intel processor machine ( I think) and
I think it is a non xenon processor (i think) so what are CPU1 and CPU0?

Question 3: I am running this machine as a data server 24 hours a day. What do
I need any power management at all? Ie: Can I nuke the packages acpi and
acpid?

Thus Summary Question 4: Am I right in the above and can I just do apt-get
remove --purge acpi acpid apmd \ libapml , and be done with all these
questions and not screw up my server?

Thanks,
Mitchell
