How can I build the module wihtin the kernel tree itself? I will take a look at the kernel How-to and post again if I can't find.
make menuconfig -> device drivers -> sound -> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (what ALSA stands for....it was integrated into the kernel with 2.6, as was much of pcmcia-cs).
