| Hello list,
| As instructed I am starting a new thread. I saw the
previous
| posts regarding alsa and did this
| apt-get install alsa alsamixer alsamixergui
| This went fine. I did modconf and loaded the ac97 and ac97_codec
| modules. But still it is not working. On trying to use alsamixer it
says -
| [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ alsamixer
|
| alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
|
| Similar is the output for xmms -
| [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xmms
| libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
|
| ** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp): No
| such device
| Any clues ??
| Thanks

Shatam,
Have you run #alsaconf ?
If so what did the output look like?

... guess you installed your kernel-headers and alsa-utils as well? with
alsaconf you should be able to install your soundmodule. *not* with
modconf in this case..
sorry if i write things you saw or did before, i did not follow this
thread completely.
ps: i installed under sarge: alsabase, alsa-headers, alsamixergui,
alsa-modules, alsa-source and alsa-utils: and all is working perfect
after, as jonathan pointed out, doing alsaconf
kr.,
steef
