Thanks -- I looked at $TERM and tried setting it to ansi; top was the same, and
the PageUp and PageDown keys stopped working for less. I agree that it likely
has something to do with the terminal type, and seem to recall dealing with an
.inputrc file on some previous/ other GNU/Linux system, but I don't know where
to look next. I think it has something to do with how Debian 3.1 deals with
cygwin terminals.
