So, that provides some explanation for the original error message in XFree86.0.log about being unable to find the 'cursor' font. Assuming that the problem with diversion of the font (whatever that means) remains. However, I find that I simply can't install artwiz-cursor, even if I purge xfonts-artwiz from my system (below).
