I've seen it mentioned here before, but didn't find it on the list: when initially installing, there are no device files for SCSI cdrom or tape. Not knowing enough of *nix to fix this myself, I was lucky I had moved my old slackware stuff to another partition, so I could steal it's MAKEDEV script. Debian should either simply include _all_ device files (how big are they anyway), or include a MAKEDEV-alike script (and document it's existence!) so users can do this themselves.
