This has been discussed on this list before, but I don't recall the suggestions; check the archives or dejanews (linux.debian.user). I suspect that you can do it like this: [note: I have never done this, I just took a look at dpkg's options] [on "mother" machine A] dpkg --get-selections > thelist [on "child" machine B] dpkg --set-selections < thelist dselect install Additionally, you'll probably want to reuse your configuration files, so something like cd / ; tar cvf conffiles.tar `cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/*conffiles` and delete host-specific conffiles (e.g. /etc/hostname) from that.
