I quickly discovered that the library was failing to be built in earlier portions of the make. If memory serves, it was failing to find a necessary library, once I installed that, everything built fine. I might suggest adding something like '2>&1 |tee ../build.log' to the end of the make command. This will log all of the output of the make to build.log one directory higher than the source. (keeps the source from getting cluttered with log files)
