| I am trying to build dpkg from source as provided with slink. The first
| thing it tells you to do is cd to the directory containing the souce code
| and type ./configure to run the configure script.

| The problem is that there IS no configure script!

I haven't got the dpkg source, but I'll dare a guess.
Try to run 'autoconf'. If it works, it should give you configure.
If it didn't work, try 'aclocal; autoheader; automake; autoconf'.
