This has been asked here more than once, and I haven't seen the Midnight Commander method mentioned. In mc, select the directory containing the files and type + <return> <f6> \L* <return> and it's done. 1111111111 2222 333 44444444 1 select all the files in the directory. You could modify the shell pattern. 2 move files. 3 \L means lowercase everything that follows, * matches the whole old-name. (the name of the opposite panel's directory will disappear when you hit \) 4 Do it. It's quite a flexible general renaming tool.
