Yes it does.  You have to recompile the kernel to support your NIC
and CDROM.  You need the kernel-source, modules, kernel-headers and
make-kpkg installed.

Rather the go through the list of _how_ to do it, why don't you take a
look at the mailing list archives.  It has been repeated over and over
there.  If/when you have a problem, then request help from the list.
