Consider that I would like to selectively prevent certain programs from being started at boot time, such as, say, icmplogd, or the tama daemon. Further, I don't just want to nuke them off the system, or delete the symlinks in the rc.d hierarchy.
What is the preferred method for temporarily disabling them? I've thought of renaming the pertinent script in the init.d dir, but I'm wondering if there is a downside to this approach. Bob Bernstein at Esmond, Rhode Island, USA
