I've finally decided to bite the bullet, and install GNOME. I'm running hamm, without any packages from slink or potato installed.
I've downloaded the .deb files for the basic gnome system from ftp.gnome.org, and thought I'd try and work out how to install them with dpkg. The problem is, it's conflicting with the versions of gimp and gtk+ and glib that I have installed at the moment (snipped output from dpkg -l); gimp 1.0.0-1 The layers-based, non-Motif GNU Image Manipu libgtk1 1.0.4-1 The GIMP Toolkit set of widgets for X libgimp1 1.0.0-1 Libraries necessary to run the GIMP So I'm obviously going to have to update quite a bit if I want everything to run smoothly. Can any of you GNOME + gimp users advise me here? Ought I to move up to gtk+ 1.1.x, or should I stick as closely as possible to the stuff that comes with hamm? Thanks. -- Graham
