The IBM MCA SCSI adaptor isn't the best HBA ever made, so cabling is VERY important. Same with termination. Finally, you may wish to read the Bootprompt HOWTO for some parameters to pass to the kernel at boot time regarding your IBM MCA SCSI adaptor.
