I COMPLETELY agree. I am a total newbie, but I fortunately know a friend who has used linux since he was five(many years) and gives me lots of help. Also, I have posted several questions here and have found an overwhelming desire to help, whereas in most newsgoups one would be flamed. Thanks to those who take the time to help. It makes linux a much more desirable environment than other OS's which charge per call for assistance.

The more eyes that see a question, the better your chances are for a correct solution. Many of the "gurus" that answer your questions do not come to this list to simply help out. I'm sure some do, but many (me included) are looking for answers to questions that they have. In the process of scanning the list they see things that they KNOW how to fix and say to themselves " well, it will only take a minute to help here, so why not! I appreciate the help available from everyone here and hope it will always be available in such a timely and easy to access format. I also want to point out that most questions can be answered by simply checking the /usr/docs directory on your own system. The problem with that is simple, you may be too new to know where to look in the docs. That is where the experienced users can help. Most of the time they simply tell you where to find your own answers. Believe me that is the best way, as you learn more. Eventually you will find that you tend to answer more questions than you ask, then you are no longer a newbie! I have been enjoying the development of free open source software since 1992 and hope all of you develop a level of experience that will allow you to also help others do the same. I also can tell you that once I have a VREY reliable, Linux, banking package I will remove the 1 remaining Microsoft OS that I have installed. That is becaus I have ALL my needs met via free software. -- John Foster AdVance-Computing Systems [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] < /dev/null
