Hi, pon issued by itself will execute the connection "provider".
so:
pon
pon provider
do the same thing.
Is this a permissions problem? pppd may only be run by root or a member of the
group dip:
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root dip 105884 Jun 18 1998 /usr/sbin/pppd
Does your ppp log have any more information?
