Sorry to keep replying to my own posts but I have sysklogd installed now. The thing I did to get around the errors was an accident. Instead of going into dselect and selecting sysklogd to install, I ran dselect again and skipped selecting (I had previously done that) and went strait to install and it worked perfectly. The only thing now is I get no output to xconsole but I will start to work on that. kent
